Error 48 while installing HASP driver

Error Description:

Error 48 “Unable to start/stop hardlock service with parameters 1119 1058 1.
ErrorCode: 48 5 595 1058”

Resolution:

  1. If the counter is a USB key then it will need to be unplugged. If the counter is uses a parallel port it does not need to be unplugged.
  2. Uninstall all HASP items showing up in Add/Remove Programs
  3. Check to see if there is a "HASP Loader" service running, if there is, stop it.
  4. Download the latest Command Prompt HASP driver from http://www.safenet-inc.com.
  5. Open Command Prompt and browse to the folder containing the hasp driver (if this is Vista/7 you may have to run Command Prompt as an Administrator).
  6. Remove the Driver by entering: "haspdinst.exe -fr -purge".
  7. Reboot Windows
  8. Reinstall the Driver by entering "haspdinst.exe -i -fi -kp". You should get a Successful message this time without the error.
