Error Description:Error message “Unable to install Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005”
QLocalInstall.log shows a Return Code 29508
Summary.txt shows the following error:
“Product : SQL Server Database Services
Error : SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on registry key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib for user HP_Administrator”
Resolution:To proceed, verify that the Windows account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the Windows user account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that the following registry key exists: HKLM\software\Microsoft\ Microsoft SQL SERVER.
Clean up their install FULLY (Refer to article ******)
Also:
-In the registry, AFTER VERIFYING THAT NO OTHER PROGRAMS INSTALLED ARE USING SQL: delete the following registry keys:
HKLM\software\Microsoft\ Microsoft SQL SERVER
-AFTER VERIFYING THAT NO OTHER PROGRAMS INSTALLED ARE USING SQL: Delete the Microsoft SQL Server folder from Program files.
Reboot attempt the install again.
