Frequently Asked Question:

Is there any way to calculate the General Ability Index (GAI) using the WISC-IV scoring assistant?

Answer:

The WISC-IV General Ability Index is calculated using a utility outside of the scoring assistant. Read carefully before continuing. Please make sure your macro security level is set to low in Microsoft Excel before opening this file.

This is done by performing the following steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Excel
  2. Click on TOOLS
  3. Navigate down to MACRO
  4. Select Security
  5. Select Low

After you have followed the steps above, close Excel completely and download the files below. If you have any questions, please call the Pearson eSupport Center at (800) 249-0659. The WISC-IV GAI may be downloaded by clicking on the links below.

WISC–IV Technical Report #4
Detailed information about the GAI is available in the WISC–IV Technical Report #4 (Raiford, Weiss, Rolfhus, & Coalson, 2005). It is recommended that practitioners read the technical report thoroughly before using this tool.

WISC-IV General Ability Index (GAI) Utility
