Resolution:
Applications running in the background often cause conflicts with the installation of new programs, so you will need to close these prior to installing the WAIS/III/WMS-III/WIAT-II Writer.
To close background applications you will need to complete the following steps:
- Hold down the [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Delete] keys. This should cause a Close Program dialog box to appear.
- Within the Close Program box, you will want to highlight each program listed by clicking on it and then clicking on the End Task button near the bottom of the box.
- Close each program listed EXCEPT Explorer and Systray. These two programs MUST continue to run for your operating system to operate properly.
- Each time you click the End Task button, the Close Program box will disappear from your screen. You will need to hold down the [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Delete] keys again to get it to reappear. You will need to repeat this process for each program you close.
In addition any security or desktop management software must be shut down. If this is not done updates may not occur. For information on this, see your IT or Technology personnel.
(NOTE: This process will close these programs for the current session of Windows only. They will restart when you restart your computer.)
After all the programs except Explorer and Systray have been closed you will need to uninstall the software by going to:
- Click on Start, Program, PsychCorpCenter, Uninstall, Uninstall WAIS-III/WMS-III/WIAT-II Writer
- Follow the onscreen prompts to completely uninstall the software.
After the software has been uninstalled you can reinstall the software and avoid most file conflicts.
