Printer Error 482

There is some problem that prevents printing. This error appears when the program cannot detect a printer installed on the local machine. You must have a printer installed or you can't run this software. If you do have a printer installed on a network, please set the printer (in windows) as a locally attached one. You must edit the user’s logon script (if you are the administrator) to map the printer to the user’s lpt1 port. Remember that non-administrators cannot map a network or shared printer to an LPT port or COM port.
Use the net.exe command to establish a persistent connection. To do this, use the following syntax at a command prompt:

net use lptx \\printserver\sharename /persistent:yes

where x is the number of the printer port that you want to map, where printserver is the print server that is sharing the printer, and where sharename is the name of the printer share.

For example, to map LPT2 to a printer shared as Laser1 on a print server that is named Pserver, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
  3. Type net use lpt2 \\pserver\laser1 /persistent:yes, and then press ENTER.
  4. To quit the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.

Bear in mind that NET USE only works on an XP machine with FULL administrator rights. If the user tries to use this script, it will not work because they DO NOT have access to run the script. Even if this is added to their start-up script it still won’t work if they are not an administrator.
