Facial Expressions of Emotion – Stimuli and Tests (FEEST). Software manual v 2.1
The TVTC FEEST CD contains
- The Ekman 60 Faces Test
- The Emotion Hexagon Test
- A collection of FEEST_stimuli
- FEEST manual
- Various additional files: software manual/help (i.e. this manual); license; registration; and read-me.
The Ekman 60 Faces Test is an easy-to-administer software test. It uses 60
images of facial expressions that are stored in the Ekman 60 faces test
folder/directory on the CD. The software presents the 60 facial expression
images at random on your computer screen. Subjects indicate what emotion
they think is displayed in the face either by touching a key on the keyboard, or
by using the computer’s mouse to point and click on the appropriate emotion
on screen. Each image is presented for a maximum of 5 seconds. If a response
is made before 5 seconds, the next image is presented. Otherwise, the image is
replaced by a blank screen after 5 seconds, and the next trial is not initiated
until the participant makes a response. The software remembers the subject’s
responses, calculates scores, and allows you to save the results in a
spreadsheet-compatible file. The software and its associated images can not be
copied from the CD: you can run this test only from the CD.
The Emotion Hexagon Test is an easy-to-administer software test. It uses
30 images of facial expressions that are stored in the Emotion Hexagon test
folder/directory on the CD. The software presents the 30 facial expression
images at random on your computer screen.
The 30 images are displayed again 5
more times, at random. The software remembers the subject’s responses,
calculates scores, and allows you to save the results in a spreadsheetcompatible
file. The software and its associated images can not be copied from
the CD: you can run this test only from the CD.
The FEEST Stimuli collection is a folder/directory containing more than
1,000 images of facial expressions and an ‘image installer’ software utility.
These can be used for your own wide-ranging assessment and development
purposes. All the images are stored on the CD in an encrypted state. If you
copy these files onto your own computer by the normal process of selection and
dragging they will appear only as thumbnails and will be too small to use. You
can only copy the images for practical use by using the image installer utility.
As the images are installed an identifier is added so that the installation can be
traced to your source CD.
The FEEST Manual is a manual, supplied in electronic format for you to
browse on screen, or print and read on paper. It provides a full background to
the psychology associated with the development of the FEEST stimuli, and
information on how to use them in neuropsychological, clinical, and
experimental contexts. It also provides a background to other published studies
of investigations in the facial expression of emotion.
