BASC-2 Validity Indexes
|
Jen foud another gap in Score Testing (hopefully the last).
For reasons not worth getting into, score tests were never generated for F, V and LIE indexes. Consequently, there was an error in the LIE scale for SRP-A and in the F scale for SRP-COL that went undetected until Jen found them.
So I have now generated score tests for all of these scales, in the 'TestCase/ValidityIndexes' folder for each form (SRP-I has none of these validity indexes, and so doesn't have a TestCase/ValidityIndexes folder). Test cases have been added to both the main and 2.5 branches.
Also, the errors Jen found have been fixed in both branches.

Hi Dave,
Can you look at the LIE-Raw score for the SRP_A. In the attached example, the LIE_Raw score is coming up as 1 but I believe the score should be 11.

Change to the SRP-I Composite scoring
|
Raw Score document I was working from stated that all SRP forms used 6 to divide by, which is incorrect. Of course, that was written before the SRP-I was built.
1.1.1.1 Emotional Symptoms Index Composite Mean
The ESI Mean score for the SRP forms is derived by dividing the Emotional Symptoms Index composite scale raw score by the form specific value listed below
SRP-I: 7
SRP-C: 6
SRP-A: 6
SRP-COL: 6
This value is only used for the SRP forms.
The ESI Mean score is passed into SLang as ESI_Mean.

Rewrite report usage C++ layer to use Aladdin 8.0 API
|
All reports indicate that our report usage logic is leveraging a version of Aladdin's API which was written in the last century, or possibly the one before it. Aladdin has made it quite clear that it's more recent HASP drivers, especially those designed to run on 64-bit platforms, REQUIRE the 8.0 API set. Therefore, it would seem to be essential that we revisit the report ordering/report usage logic to run against the 8.0 API instead of the current API of uncertain provenance.

MMPI-2-RF: Mail-in processing center needs a way to capture Comparison Group from answer form
|
Mail-in customers select a Comparison Group on the answer form. This field is not captured by the scan definition. Rather, mail-in processing must select this print option from a drop-down list when they print the report. This has become problematic for the processing center because customers are calling in asking for reprints--neither the customer nor the scoring group know which comparison group to use.
-------------
[krp 1/15/09]
Consider capturing the comparison group in the scan definition and mapping it to one of the Name fields (since mail-in doesn't use these fields.)

PDF - xtra large size, i.e. MMPI2-RF hangs when sent to screen in XP but not Vista - works correctly when printed or saved
|
Problem discovered while testing new comparison groups but existed (undetected) in 2.3.17. The attempt to send to screen will tie up 50% of the CPU usage and will dramatically slow painting. It will never complete and user must Restart not just Q Local but the PC. Workarounds are to print or save. Vista works ok. Dave and Eric have already determined the cause - . The solution is to change Q Local to go to single processor only for the OSA - that is out of the scope of this release and will be done later. Customer service will have notes about this problem.
===================
(gdb - 09/29/2009)
Problem does not occur only for MMPI-2-RF with comparison groups, but will occur when sending ANY report to screen if the report is of sufficient size. Reproduced the problem generating a CISS report with all available report options selected.

Increase JVM memory maximum to 128m
|
Due to the *very* large size of the AsmtDef files for each of the BASC-2 assessments, and the corresponding large size of each BASC-2 score computer, Q Local can run out of memory. Thus far, this problem has only manifested in the area of 'scanning' --- more accurately, in the import of a DAT file.
Current design allows a maximum of 5 score computers to be held in memory simultaneously, precisely because we know that a score computer tends to be very expensive in terms of memory. However, it turns out that an attempt to load more than two BASC-2 score computers into memory will result in an OutOfMemoryError.
An easy solution to this issue --- and the one that seems to be correct --- is to increase the amount of memory available to Q Local. For the lifetime of Q Local 2 (and likely for the whole lifetime of Q Local), memory has been limited to 64M. Considering that we have been documenting for years that:
1) Minimum required system memory for Q Local is 128M.
2) Recommended minimum system memory for Q Local is 256M.
It seems that we should encounter few customer issues, if any, if we allow the Q Local JVM access to a maximum of 128M memory. Experimentation demonstrates that 128M is sufficient (just barely) to avoid scanning issues with BASC-2 forms, provided the total number of scan sheets in any one batch is restricted to 100 or fewer.
Specific changes to be made include:
1) Change the launcher to pass JVM options: -Xms64m -Xmx128m -XX:NewSize=6m
2) Change the final 'catch' clause in ScanndedARImportProcessor.importAssessment to catch ANY Throwable, including an OutOfMemoryError, so that if the error occurs, the user will at least get a message and a stack trace sent to the log, rather than just having her system hang.
===============
(gdb - 04/30/2010)
On 4/29, it was agreed that in addition to increasing the amount of memory allocated to the VM, we would also restrict the number of Score Computers cached in memory at any one time to a maximum of 4. This is a decrease from the existing maximum of 5. It was discovered that with very large assessments (such as the BASC), it caused severe performance degredation and even exhausted the JVM heap space to allow QLocal to try to instantiate and maintain 5 Score Computers in memory simultaneously.

HASP auditing causes incorrect deduction of report usage in rare cases.
|
Customer issue from Christian Buehler, 5/5/2010.
Customer reported problem generating report, insisted that Q Local was incorrectly deducting a usage even though report never printed. Christian referred issue to David Bailey. Upon examination, discovered customer was correct. The HASP modification logic is logged extensively to troubleshoot issues such as this one. As it turns out, it appears that the HASP modification code successfully modified the HASP, but then was unable to take a second reading of the HASP to verify that contents had changed. This error in reading the HASP caused Q Local to throw an exception during the reporting process, preventing the user from receiving his reports while still charging the user.
In order to address this issue in the 2.5 time frame, logic was added to the HASP modification logic to flag when the HASP contents have actually changed. Now when a HASP exception is thrown, the logic will check the flag to determine whether the HASP modification was successful (and the only error was in the attempt to re-read and validate), or not. If the HASP modification was successful, the read error will be logged but no other exception will be thrown, allowing the user to receive the report he has paid for. Otherwise (when the HASP has not been modified, or when the attempt to modify the HASP fails) the current exception handling logic will execute, preventing a report from getting generated and reporting an error to the user.
Code change reviewed and approved by Paula Rutherford 5/10/2010. Only QA testing required is regression testing of HASP operations.

Disable the free Extended Score Reports in the next release of Q-Local for MMPI-2 FREE ESR
|
Disable the free Extended Score Reports in the next release of Q-Local for MMPI-2 FREE ESR
From Kathy Eback, 5/6/2010:
===================
' . . . disable the free Extended Score Reports in the next release of Q-Local.'
At some point in the past, the reporting logic for Q Local was altered so that if a user had already printed a record using any of the following report types:
51442 MMPI-2 Personnel Interpretive Report
51441 MMPI-2 Personnel Adjustment Rating Report
51487 MMPI-2 Adult Clinical System Interpretive Report
51515 MMPI-2 Reports for Forensic Settings
as well as for the two (apparently obsolete) reports 51443 (Alcohol and Drug) and 51447 (Custom DOE Personnel Rating), then they would not be charged to print
51438 MMPI-2 Extended Score Report
for the same record.
As of the 2.5.6 build, this exemption for the MMPI-2 Extended Score Report will change, and users will be charged a usage the first time they print an MMPI-2 Extended Score Report for a record, regardless of what other reports may already have been printed for that record.

Request: New Development
|
New database table to track norm groups, comparison groups, etc. for printed reports.
|
There are a number of assessments in the 2.5 release which support report options which need to be persisted. Examples include comparison groups in the MMPI-2-RF (see TT 6463), and norm groups in MBMD and BASC-2. In particular, mail-in needs the ability to re-generate a report using the same norms/comparison groups as were used when the report was initially generated. As of the 2.4 release, there is no way to track which options were selected when the report was originally generated.
In particular, it seems the correct way to satisfy the need described above is to add a new table to the database, something like 'report_group_options', with schema similar to:
- ar_id int NOT NULL
- report_group_id int NOT NULL
- rank_order int NOT NULL
with a foreign key relation into the assessment_record table. Then for each assessment record with 'printed' status, if that particular assessment supports comparison groups or norm groups, the information about which comparison group/norm groups were selected for that printing would be persisted in the report_group_options table. For assessments such as BASC-2, which allow a user to select multiple norm groups to print a single report, the rank_order field would persist information about the order in which the norm groups were selected.
This test track describes a more general solution to the particular issue described in TT 6463, and thus when this track is closed, TT 6463 should be closed as well.

Q Local: Clicking on Report in View Report Inventory hijacks an open IE window
|
nlm 12-15-06/I notice that when I click on a report in the Q Local report inventory screen it takes me to the Pearson website, but it steals an IE window that I already have open. For example, say I have Mirage open on my system. I open Q Local and want to learn more about an assessment. I click on the test & it takes me to the PA website. I learn about the test and I close the website. Because it has hijacked the Mirage window, now Mirage is closed too.
info from Kathy Ford:
In the code that says to open the window, they should include:
target=”_blank”
That opens a new window. I’ll bet someone just forgot to think of it. They should be able to change that easily at the next release.
=========================================
gdb - 1/30/2007
Kathy's comment is correct when writing link information in an HTML document. But despite appearances, we're not dealing with HTML in QLocal. The upshot is, there's no place to add the information 'target="_blank"'.
The way QLocal opens web pages is by executing the Windows cmd.exe utility, and relying on Windows file associations to know that something ending in .htm is a reference to a file which should be opened with the user's preferred web browser. It may be possible to provide an additional hint that the file should be opened in a new window/tab, but I doubt it, and I wasn't able to find any such trick in about a half-hour of Googling.
Now certainly in a good web browser, like Firefox, it's possible to configure the browser so it knows to open externally-launched web pages in a new tab. In fact in a good web browser, like Firefox, it's default behavior. This may be configurable in Internet Explorer as well, but I wasn't able to find it in my brief look through IE 6.0.

Non-Admin user can turn Require User ID for Login security feature off, only admins should be allowed to
|
The new Security Preference security feature only allows the security feature "Require User ID for Login" to be turned on if the user supplies a system administrator User ID and password. The feature can be turned off without supplying a system administrator User ID and password.
[tsf 3/28/2008] By default, a new user has permissions to change global preferences. "Require User ID for Login" is just one of many such global preferences. The admin user who is adding a new user can deselect that permission so that the new non-admin user cannot turn off the Requre User ID preference or any other global preference. An argument could be made that each of these global feature should have their own permission, or the default permissions for any new non-admin user should have certain permissions disabled. For now, all global preferences are lumped together, and the default for a new non-admin user has the permission set. The field experience suggests that this is adequate.
The user already has a way to turn off this permission (along with the ability to modify any other global perference) if they consider it important.

Notes:
a) At some point we will disable entry of 1 and 2 for gender.
b) Q Local answer sheets will be updated to include M and F inside the bubbles instead of 1 and 2. ASSIST answer sheets and record forms will also change if necessary.
c) Scanning, On-screen admin, Export, and SLang will not change--only manual entry.
d) Purpose is to reduce and eventually eliminate recording errors when ASSIST products (which use 1=Female and 2=Male) are put on the Q Local platform.
field label could be Gender (1=male, 2=female)

Error importing MTQ transfer file
|
For certain types of MTQ transfer files (.tra files), QLocal encounters an error when importing them. This is a regression which was introduced in 2.3. It is not clear the conditions under which the .tra file will cause QLocal to throw an error. The underlying cause has to do with the migration from Borland-based DB communication to the more standard JDBC DB communication, and the different way in which the Borland implementation and the JDBC implementation handle certain types of errors.
To reproduce the problem, attempt to import the attached .tra file into QLocal 2.3.17 or 2.4.8. A generic error message will be displayed to the user. In the 'fixed' version (QLocal 2.5.2 and forward), the import will complete successfully.

Email correspondence on this - edited high hights
I’ve requested that 1, 2, 3 and 6 be redirected ASAP this from Kathy Ford
Also from Kathy Ford
The links for # 4 and 5 below look like problems within the online help. See my comments below in this email. The rest I should be able to fix and have asked the web team to look in the OMS tasks from last year to see if these were already addressed once.
4 and 5. I opened my Q Local version (old, I admit) and the MCCI FAQ links to MCMI-III and MACI actually link correctly to those pages within the online help. They don’t go out to the website. My guess is that was never the intent in these cases. Also, if you look at the links Debra supplied, they’re into the online help structure. (I recognize the folders from when I used to work on it.) So it looks like the links just need to be made again correctly in the online help file.

Q Local 2: Upgrade SSEE to SP2
|
nlm 7-11-07/SSEE SP2 is available for download. This Test Track is a placeholder for work that is requried to update the SSEE that we install with Q Local 2 to this latest SP from Microsoft.
=============
(gdb - 07/18/2007)
If there is consensus to change the version of SSEE that we deliver to customers to be SSEE SP2, that's fine. I believe we should NOT make any effort to upgrade existing client installations to use SSEE SP2.

Develop process and architecture to support inter-release critical patches to customers
|
Recent attempts to assist customers with problems discovered in released product have hightlighted the fact that we have no process in place for delivering critical patches for released products. We not only have no established process for delivering critical patches, we don't even have a very good idea of what such a process would look like.
This tracker item serves as a placeholder to document the highly desirable goal of developing a process which:
1) Allows customer support and, in extreme cases, development to conduct an in-depth investigation of customer problems in the field.
2) Allows development to quickly and reliably reproduce an exact build of any currently supported product in the field and, more
importantly, accurately identify the full source base which was used to build that product.
3) Allows QA to rapidly validate the integrity of any critical patch for an existing release before it is released to customers.
4) Enables development to deliver a critical patch to customers which contains a minmal set of components necessary to fix a critical
problem discovered in the field.
With proper branching and checkin practices, our Perforce implementation should address item (2) for the 1.3 and future QLocal releases.
Currently, we are struggling with the question of how best to address a problem which is only known to affect three customers and which only impacts usability of the QLocal platform. It is reasonable to expect that a more serious problem will crop up in the future, and that we should do in all in our power to be prepared to address it when it does.
Cost prohibitive in 2.2, Consider for NCAP.

Q Local: update tech support phone number
|
7-21-09
Nancy,
Please open a defect for 2.3.17 to ensure that Q Local 2.4 reflects the Technical Support customer contact telephone number change to 800-249-0659 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 800-249-0659 end_of_the_skype_highlighting. Effective with the launch of our new website, tentatively scheduled for this weekend, our single published Technical Support telephone number is 800-249-0659 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 800-249-0659 end_of_the_skype_highlighting.
Please ask if you have questions or need clarification.

Add report type codes for BASC-2 report types to PROUD
|
Before QLocal 2.5 is released to the field, and the BASC-2 assessments along with it, the BASC-2 report types will need to be added to the production database for PROUD.
This will require a nominal amount of development time to develop the necessary SQL, plus QA time to validate the SQL on the test server for PROUD and make sure nothing else is inadvertently broken.

All windows which display multiple records : Ctrl + Click and Shift + Click do not work properly
|
MTxDBTable does not properly support Ctrl+Click and Shift+Click operations. It works especially poorly when trying starting at the bottom of a list. It works a little better when going top down, but still has problems. It should work identically to how this functions in Windows Explorer.
The behavior can be reproduced on any window with a list in the system (Assessment Record window is probably the easiest place to see the behavior).

If multiple assessments are selected through click+shift+click Ctrl+Click does not deselect specified record
[eav 1-15-2007]
It appears that at least part of this behavior (the fact that it doesn't work if you select from the bottom up) is a bug in the borland DBSwing jar. Might be able to eliminate it by upgrading that jar, until such time as we can drain the swamp enough to do away with DBSwing.

UI: Null pointer exception
|
This defect was found as a result of debugging TT 2456. If you load that trq file and try to edit the record, any edit beyond that causes this defect to show up.
class MTxMenuBarAbs.cloneItem() can return null under normal conditions (menu item not found)
When that happens, the "menu" field of getMTxHelpMenu() is null and is passed to addActionListener(menu, homepage)
then this loop in addActionListener can't getItemCount() because pMenu is null
There may be something else going on here too, because the menu it could not find is "&Help"

Prepare On-Screen Administration: Separator lines visible at some display resolutions
|
I am not sure but this may well be display adapter problem also.
In NT machine, when i went to onscreen admin, the seperator line images were not visible. I have taken screen shot for the Step #2.
When we first enter Step #2, the seperator lines were not visible. But when i clicked Find Client Demographics and the screen refreshed with data, the lines became visible. Do check it out.
Attached before and after clicking find client demo btn

I get this exact same problem on my machine which is W2K. I've notice if I make the lines 2 pixels thick they show up, but if they're only 1 pixel thick they don't.
I'm set to High Color (16 bit) at 1024x768.

Export: System accepts a Administered Between to date that precedes the from date

Not sure if this is a feature or a bug.
In Step #3 of export, leave all the boxes empty except for the Administered Between Dates boxes. With an assessment having an administration date of 1/1/2004, enter 1/1/2004 in the first (from) box, and enter 12/31/2003 in the second (to) box.
The to date precedes the from date.
Records will be output.
Since we normally expect time to go in only one direction, shouldn't the system reject the date settings?

Feature Request - Not Defaulting Reports the First Time
|
One of the number one calls to tech support is customers who report they cannot print a report because it "says they are out of usages & they just ordered some!" or "they just installed the update & now their usages are gone because they can't print a report". The reason they get these errors is that they are not selecting the right report type. MTQ defaults to whichever report comes first in the list alphabetically.
This is a huge issue that causes great confusion for the customer. I know, they need to read the screen… However, I have always thought a simple way to get around this is to default to something that says "please select a report". That way, when the customer clicks thru the screen without reading it, they will get an error that says, "you need to select a report type". We could even get fancy and tell them that the selected report will now become the default. Thoughts?
Thanks - Nancy
---------------------
The main reason it is implemented with standard defaults is so the automated report functionality works correctly (i.e. the automated reporting knows there will always be a default report indicated for the assessment). If we change that behavior, we will have to change auto-reporting to handle the situation where no default is specified.
- Rob
Unfortunately the automated report functionality only works correctly if the default is the report desired. I think we should make Nancy's suggested change <please select a report> and when a user tries to automatically print a report the first time, offer them the popup report menu to select from.
