Currently this error has only shown up on Windows 7 64 Bit systems.

Q Local fails to install with the SQL Server could not be installed error.

Upon checking the QLocalInstall.log, Return Code of 1402 from the SSEE installation was found.

The problem appears to be user permissions to the registry that SSEE needs access to add keys to.

This can happen even if the user is an administrator on the computer.

To correct the issue use download the specific tool located at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx.

Unzip it to a folder on the computer, the desktop is preferrable.

Next:

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator (or turn off the UAC), browse to the folder where the PsExec tools is installed.
  2.  Execute the tool by typing, psexec -i -s cmd.exe . This will open a second Command Prompt window, whihc will be running under the 'Local System' id and have permissions.
  3. Inside this second Command Prompt window type regedit to open the registry,
  4. In the Registry browse to: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\
  5. Right click on Components and go to "Permissions". Add the login name to the group.
  6. Make sure it has Full Control of this folder then click on the "Advanced" button.
  7. Select the proper Permission entry and check both, "Include Inheritable permissions from this object's parent" and "Replace all existing inheritable permission on all descendants with inheritable permissions from this object"
  8. Apply and close the Registry

Install Q Local 2 2.5 as normally directed.
