Frequently Asked Question:

Does the BOSS work without a PDA device?

Answer:

The BOSS is designed for grades Pre-K through 12, and is designed to facilitate the systematic, direct observation of children's behaviors in the school environment. With the BOSS, you can record whether students are actively or passively engaged in activities and how often they engage in off-task behaviors, especially important for monitoring intervention success.

The unlimited-use BOSS software requires a Palm OS®-based Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and a computer (PC) for the installation.

When you install the software, a desktop application is created on the computer and the BOSS application is downloaded to the PDA. You complete your behavioral observations using the PDA; frequency data are automatically tracked and tabulated by the software. The PDA serves as the recording, timing, and calculation device, and the computer as the reporting device. After the observations are completed, the stored PDA data can be uploaded to your computer for printing, storing, including a report, or exporting to a spreadsheet.

Minimum System Requirements for BOSS PDA Application:

  • Palm OS 3.1 to 5.x
  • Palm HotSync™ Manager 4.1 and above
  • Windows® 95/98/2000/Me/XP/NT 4.0 Workstation Operating System
  • 133MHz Pentium processor
  • 16MB RAM
  • 2 MB video card capable of 800x600 resolution (16-bit colors)
  • 20 MB free hard disk space
  • CD-ROM Drive

The Complete Kit for BOSS includes the program CD-ROM, 3.5" installation disk, and user's manual.
