A student already exists with the same name

Customer calls because when entering a new student (or editing an existing student), a message is displayed like this: ""A student already exists with the same Name, Date of Birth, or Gender. Duplicate students are not allowed.""

What this means: This student may have been loaded into the system as a 'pre-id import'. The student may need to be re-rostered to the new class. The teacher may or may not have rights to do this. The teacher should:

1. Click Search Student and enter the student's name to find him.
2. In the search results, note if a test date is entered. If so, then this student has an assessment entered. In this case it is questionable if the student should be moved. More than likely, a test date will not exist because the student was entered via 'pre-id import'.
3. Click Roster. If only the left side 'current class' information is displayed, then the user does not have rights to re-roster (or an assessment exists). If the right side of the page displays 'new class', then the user has rights to re-roster (and no assessment currently exists)
4. If the teacher does not have rights to re-roster, let the teacher to know to please contact their administrator or ELL Coordinator.

Duplicate student criteria are: First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name, DOB, and Gender. Student ID is not part of the criteria. If you have two students with the same name and gender, first duplicate student has a date of birth and the second duplicate student does not have a date of birth. This will not flag as duplicate. Two students with matching names and no gender and no date of birth will flag as duplicate because gender and date of birth fields match (they are both blank).

Note: With this latest release Student ID is no longer required.
