Frequently Asked Question:
What is the Process Assessment of the Learner - Second Edition?
Answer:
The first comprehensive evidence-based assessment-intervention system in reading, writing, and math. PAL-II is a research-based assessment and intervention tool based on NICHD (reading and writing) and US Department of Education (math) funded research completed by the author. The measures are organized by three tiers:
-
Prevention (Tier 1) provides evidence-based class-wide and school-wide screening and intervention for students at-risk for reading, writing, and math difficulties; the early intervention lessons have been demonstrated to prevent reading, writing, and math problems K to 4 in many students.
-
Problem Solving (Tier 2) provides an evidence-based approach to problem-solving consultation in which a small set of research-validated diagnostic measures is selected based on reason for referral; results are used in planning modification of the instructional program and in progress monitoring K to 6.
-
Diagnostic (Tier 3) provides evidence-based diagnostics for dysgraphia, dyslexia, OWL LD, and dyscalculia that are linked to evidence-based treatment for these biologically based learning disabilities.
PAL-II comes with a User Guide on CD that helps professionals in psychology, speech and language, education, and occupational therapy learn to use the PAL-II Reading and Writing Diagnostic Battery and the PAL-II Math Diagnostic. The interventions are included in the kit, and may be printed to use in the classroom.
