Frequently Asked Question:

When testing a gifted first grader and entering the information into the scoring assistant, the program states "Out of level".  I continued administering items and have gone as far as 7/8 grade start points and seventh grade stopping points. Can I score a gifted child?

Answer:

The Reading Comprehension subtest does not provide scores for performance on item sets beyond the student's current grade level. It only permits the administration of item sets below the student's current grade level. As a result, the only valid score is the 1st grade item set score.

We understand that this score may not fully capture the ability of this particular gifted student, so we recommend including information about the student's performance on later item sets in the report. This cannot be reported quantitatively, but provides some very informative qualitative information.
